About the Teacher About the Teacher

My name is Susan Beil and I am the new 6th grade Learning Support Teacher at Slatington Elementary.  While I am new to Slatington, I am not new to the Northern Lehigh School District.  For the past 15 years, I taught at Peters Elementary. Prior to that I worked for the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit.  Over the years, I've held several positions including 4th-6th Emotional Support Teacher, Instructional Support/Kindergarten Teacher, and Kdg-2nd Learning Support Teacher.  I am looking forward to the 2009-10 school year and working with the 6th grade team.
I received dual certification in Elementary and Special Education from Kutztown University.  I pursued my Masters in Special Education with a concentration in Behavior Disorders at Lehigh University.  I view myself as a lifelong learner.  I have a special interest in Autism/Asperger's Disorder.  I've also been studying American Sign Language (ASL) and Korean.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family.  My husband Alan is a teacher at Salisbury Middle School.  We have two children, both adopted from Korea.  Kailyn is 13 and a gymnast at Lehigh Valley Sports Academy.  Carson is 11 and is in 5th grade.  He plays soccer and is learning to play the clarinet and piano.
Some of my hobbies including drawing, jewelry making, reading, and surfing the internet.  I'm a big fan of Disney World, Piglet, and anything chocolate!
