Make sure your child has the necessary supplies to complete the assignment.
-
Establish a time that homework will be completed. You have to determine if your child works best right after school, before dinner, after dinner etc..
-
Reduce distractions.
-
Encourage your child to ask for help.
-
Be in the vicinity of your child while they are completing their homework. You do not have to sit next to them the entire time.

Keep track of how long (on task) it is taking your child to complete the assignment. If it is taking too long or appears too difficult notify the teacher.
-
Help your child study for tests/quizzes.
-
IF your child refuses to complete their homework let the natural consequences occur in school the next day.
-
Verbally praise your child! Tell them great job, thanks for being responsible, high five-you do not need to praise them with toys or food.
