Frequently Asked Questions
| What supplies do students need for class on a daily basis? | | The students are required to bring Pencil or Pen (not red) Paper Book Notebook Agenda | What should students study for the test? | The test for my class will always come from the notes and materials we have discussed in class. If a student has taken good notes, they probably will not need to refer to the text when studying. All test questions will always be right out of the notes and be question based upon the type questions they will see later in the year when they take the EOI Test. (Check the News or Calendar for EOI Test Dates!!)
Also, reviews for the test will always be given several days before the test. Each review will cover every topic and question that will be asked on the test. Reviews allow the student to focus in on the exact topics being asked on the test.
Finally, testing has become apart of our everyday life. You must take a test to drive a car, get a job, go to college, etc..., so it is important that student become familar with how to take test. This year, I will focus on improving the test taking abilities of the students. We will focus on different strategies depending on the topic being discussed and overall basic test taking strategies that work for any test. It is our goal that the students become well knowledged in the art of taking test so that they will succeed at test taking. | How can I get updated frequently on how my son or daughter is doing in class? | | I would prefer emails because phone calls can often become phone tag with the schedule especially since I coach 2 sports throughout the year, but I always will be able to check my email just about every hour during the school day and can respond a lot quicker than by phone. If it is something really important, than phone is the best way, however that will have to be at set times because of my schedule. | How can I get a grade check? (Don't forget about Parent Connect) | | I will also be giving several grade checks to the students several times between the Progress Reports. However, anytime a grade check is needed immediatly, just contact me and I can make sure that your son or daughter gets a grade check to take home to you. You can always keep track of when Progress Reports come out by frequently checking this websites "News" section. It is updated weekly. | Why is their grade so low? | | In my experience, about 90% percent of the time, low grades are a reflection of the students ability to turn in work. In other words, work ethic. The majority of the time, failing grades are not a result of ones knowledge, just ones desire to be lazy or ones irresponsibility. Let me repeat my self, I've yet to meet a student who didn't have the ability to achieve success in learning a subject. So, if you show me a low grade in class, the majority of the time, I'll be able to show you several assignments that weren't turned in which caused that grade to be low. All students can make the grade through a little hard work and responsibility no matter what the situation is. As bad as it may be that an assignment hurts you so much for not turning it in, or not turning it in on time, it's all about learning a life experience. 1)It's a school policy. 2) If and when they become an adult, we don't pay our bills, what happens??? Exactly!!! For these students, their bills are the assignments and them coming to class everyday is like their jobs. Even the students with low ability learning levels can achieve success with "hard work" It's the old saying, "nothing in life is easy" If you want something, you have to work hard to achieve it. If you want a good grade, you have to work hard to achieve it. It all comes down to one word.... "Responsibility" | Is their anything I can do to get extra credit? | The term extra credit implies that one is doing something "extra", or above and beyond what has already been asked. Extra credit should be something given to help a student who has turned in every assignment, paid attention in class every day, worked diligently, and still is not making a satisfactory grade. Therefore, I do not give extra credit assignments on an individual basis as request for them tend to come from those who didn't do the required work and at the last minute need there grade to go up as a result of consequences they may face. However, I do give a few extra credit opportunities a couple of times each quarter that any student may take advantage of if he or she wants. Usually this comes in the form of review sheets.
