Our Trout Data

Find out what data we've compiled

and share in our scientific journey!

We probably started a little late but due to time constraints and the fact that we are a elementary school and our trout tank is not actually in our classroom but in our science room on the other side of the building it has been difficult to actually schedule time to spend  in our science room monitoring the progress of our trout.  We have been checking their progress up until now but we have been using our recess time to do so and only a select few students who were willing to sacrifice their lunch and recess time actually participated.  As of January 4th, 2008 I have made a pledge to bring the entire class down to the science room daily to more closely monitor the trout as they quickly grow and become larger.

Groups of 4 students are assigned to monitor the tank on a daily basis and to report to the entire class as to the status of the trout and their tank.  Students now do daily water quality testing, checking for water clarity, pH, Ammonia levels, working condition of hardware and associated tank equipment as well as back-up power supplies and chiller and tank temperature status.  Every week 4 students do monitoring and every week a group of two students rotate out of the group and another group of two students rotate in to work with the other two experienced tank monitors, so that by the time we are ready to release our trout everyone will have had the opportunity to participate in data gathering.

As students share the information that they are gathering other students journal, draw and record the shared data.

It is our hope that if you took the time to check out our site that you will take advantage of our effort to compile the data below and hypothesize and draw conclusions along with us as we continue on our trout journey.
