 Monarch Butterfly News

This part  of our website will attempt to update Monarch Butterfly News.  Every day it seems that there is news coming out of the Mexican Monarch Sanctuaries about the Monarch populations and people are becoming more aware of how human activity affects the Monarch Butterflies.  Hopefully as we learn more about the Monarchs we will become more aware of what we can do to help these fragile creatures that now depend on us for their survival.

Hot Weather Brings Monarchs To New England  6/11/08  BOSTON (WBZ) ? The heat wave was pretty miserable, but it had one pretty side effect -- Monarch butterflies arrived here in New England.

The 12th annual Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration is underway!  3/21/08  The real monarch butterflies are migrating north from Mexico right now, and our Symbolic Monarchs are coming back too. All 70,000+ symbolic butterflies are heading to Minnesota where they will be prepared for the final leg of their journey back to classrooms across the US and Canada.  Please mark your calendars for the "Symbolic Monarch Homecoming" May 5, 2008. Monarch Watch Monarch Migration Weekly Update 3/27/08  The Monarchs have made their way out of Mexico and are flooding into the southern United States looking for milkweed to lay their eggs on, but a prolonged drought in the southern States has caused the growing season in the south to be delayed.  Milkweed that the Monarchs depend on to lay their eggs is difficult to find and as the Monarchs fly further north into Arkansas and Oklahoma they are finding even less milkweed and cooler weather.  Follow the Monarch migration maps and Read more...
