Outstanding Student Recognition
Shining Star Each week, one student is chosen from each homeroom class to exemplify role model behavior. On Wednesday, all six first grade classes gather in our first grade centrum to recognize our outstanding students for the week. Our Shining Stars are presented with a Shining Star crown to wear all day and take home and are given a certificate from their teacher. Their picture is up in the centrum all week and out in the main hallway on the bulletin board.
In our class, our Shining Star is rewarded with a trip to the treasure box and they get to be our line leader for the week! Good Apple Awards In our class, we have a "Good Apple" list on the front board. When I see a student following directions, being helpful, caring and respectful, working quietly or just overall being a good role model I ask them to put their name on the Good Apple list. They enjoy the recognition and LOVE to write their names on the board. At the end of the day I select two students to be our "Good Apples" for the day. They each receive a simple certificate with a quick congratulatory note and they get to select a special pencil from our special Good Apple pencil chest. Each day, the students are sure to remind me to pick our two Good Apples. This award gives all students a chance to be recognized throughout week for their efforts each day.
