Mrs. Simonds' Homework Information

Children not in my language arts group, enrichment students and students not in my math class will have to check with their respective teachers for homework assignments.

  • Green math folders go home daily and students are expected to complete one or two sheets of reinforcement work per day.  We go over the homework together each day at the beginning of class.  If we don't have time, I will collect it and go over it myself.
  • Science and social studies are alternated by 9 week periods.  Occasionally, we will ask the students to bring in supplies or materials to help us with our lessons.  There may be occasional homework assignments depending on the unit.
  • If your child is in my language arts class, he/she will bring home a red language arts folder with homework weeklyFolders will go home on Mondays and are to be returned by Thursday.  Your student may return their folder early if they have completed their work.  Please don't make your child do all of the work in one night.  One sheet per night is fine.  Please review this work with your child as they complete it.   This work is critical to your child's success in reading.
  • Folders are always due in the classroom no later than Thursday so that I have time to prepare them ahead of time for Monday.  If you do not have the work done, please return the folder anyway and send the work in with your child as soon as they get it done.
  • My language arts students are also expected to read books at home.  You will receive a reading log in your child's red folder.  Please keep the logs at home for the month and return to me the beginning of each month.  I am looking for the children to be reading at home consistently at home for added practice.  Ask them to find specific words or sounds while they are reading.  Most importantly, ask them ABOUT what they are reading.  This really helps them with comprehension.
  • Book It!!  This special program sponsored by Pizza Hut to promote reading begins each year in October.  Each month your child will be expected to read a certain number of books to earn a certificate for a personal pan pizza.  To receive this award, write down the title of the books your child has read, sign the form and return it to school.
