Mrs. Simonds' Homework Information

Children not in my language arts group, enrichment students and students not in my math class will have to check with their respective teachers for homework assignments.

  • Green math folders go home daily and students are expected to complete one or two sheets of reinforcement work per day.  I will collect it the following day.  Homework in math is great practice for the skills we cover each day.
  • Science and social studies are taught each week.  Occasionally, we will ask the students to bring in supplies or materials to help us with our lessons.  There may be occasional homework assignments depending on the unit.
  • If your child is in my language arts class, he/she will bring home a red language arts folder with homework dailyHomework will go home on Mondays and is to be returned by the following Monday.  The homework is meant to be completed over a few days.  Even if your child completes it all in one sitting, please keep it at home until the following Monday.  This will help with keeping up with paperwork in the classroom.  Please review this work with your child as they complete it.   This work is critical to your child's success in reading. Homework is optional for practice of grammar, reading, and writing skills.

  • My language arts students are also expected to read books at home.   I am looking for the children to be reading at home consistently for added practice.  Ask them to find specific words or sounds while they are reading.  Most importantly, ask them ABOUT what they are reading.  This really helps them with comprehension.
  • Book It!!  If we participate, this special program sponsored by Pizza Hut to promote reading begins each year in October.  Each month your child will be expected to read a certain number of books to earn a certificate for a personal pan pizza.  To receive this award, write down the title of the books your child has read, sign the form and return it to school.   Check with your child's teacher to see if they are participating in the program.
