What We’re Learning This Week! · Reading: We are reading about Christopher Columbus and Susan B. Anthony. We are also noticing story patterns so that we can write our own story following the pattern. · Writing: We will be working on words with “or” and “wh”. We are also checking and correcting sentences with mis-spelled and incorrect grammar usage. · Math: We are working on unit 4 which involves place value up to 999. We are also working on C.G.I. problems that are subtraction. · Spelling / Vocabulary: We are working on a new set of vocabulary and spelling words. We have a vocabulary book that we work on in class to help us with our understanding of the words · Science: We are working our unit on weather. We drew the water cycle and drew/wrote about our terrariums. We will take them home Friday. Learning Highlights from Last Week · In reading, we took another leveled reading test. We also worked on non-fiction text through TFK. We also worked on cause and effect through Laura Numeroff’s books. · In writing, we worked on our handwriting so that it is more legible. We worked with sentences starters to help increase the length of our sentences. · In math, we took a test on Unit 3. We began unit 4, place value. · In spelling, we took our test. We had our vocabulary test. · In science, we looked at clouds in the sky to identify them. We also wrote down our observations in our science journal of the water cycle. We drew our observations of our terrariums. News You Can Use Spelling tests will be on Fridays. There will be 25 words. Part of the words will be selected by your child. I will begin tutoring October 19th. I will tutor on Mondays and Wednesday after school. Mondays will be for reading and Wednesdays will be for math. Parent conferences will be at the end of the semester. I will send a sign-up sheet home with your child so that you can pick a time. Book Orders will be handed out October 19th. Friday we will have a pre- spelling test. I have sent the words home that your child has picked out to be included in the words they need to learn to spell. PSIA spelling words will be here in a few weeks. Home Learning · There will be homework every day! The homework package is sent out on Monday and is due Friday. · It is very important that your child read or be read to 20 minutes every day. · Homework that is not turned will be done on Mondays during Art. · Please have your child empty his/her own folder; it is their responsibility.
