Study Guide for Water Cycle & Weather Test 1. evaporation - the sun heat dries up water and changes it into a gas. 2. water vapor - is when gas meets cool air 3.condensation - clouds are formed when the water vapor condenses into tiny drops of water. 3. precipitation - rain, snow, sleet or hail fall from the clouds when they become heavy. 4. water cycle - water moves from the air to the land and back to the air. The way water keeps on doing this over and over is called the water cycle. 5. Without part of the cycle it would end. It the sun stopped shining, it would not be hot and the water would not evaporate and then we would not get any water and everything would die. 6. thermometer is used to measure temperature 7. anemometer - measures how fast the wind is blowing 8. wind vane - shows which way the wind is blowing by pointing in that direction 9. rain gauge - measure how much rain has fallen 10. We measure weather conditions to help tell us how to dress when we go outside. 11. stratus - low gray clouds that stretch across the sky that usually bring rain or snow. 12. cirrus - thin, feathery clouds high in the sky that are usually seen in sunny weather. 13. cumulus - puffy white cotton clouds that are usually seen in fair weather. We also see them when they start pilling up and turn dark, they can bring a thunderstorm. 14. front is where cold and warm air meet 15. weather is what the air is like outside
