Accelerated Reader
|
|
Accelerated Reader (or AR) is a nationwide reading program which encourages children to read using motivational incentives. As students accumulate assessment points, they are rewarded at each level of accomplishment with engraved "dog tags." The tags are attached to a chain which students wear on Wednesdays. Earning a chain is the first level of recognition. Grade levels have been assigned as appropriate number of points for each reward level. For instance, 5th graders have to earn more points than 1st graders to advance through the levels. Every student in the school is encouraged to participate and parents can help by inspiring their children to read A.R. Books. Read at home, in the car, on the bus, anywhere or anytime they have a few quiet minutes. Students are only allowed to test on books they have read or have had read to them. Taking a test on a book that was turned into a movie that someone saw is not allowed.
