Welcome to a New School Year 2011-12!

Greetings!

The message board is a community board for the online dissemination of information (i.e. homeworks, class discussion, projects, and extra-credits) for courses specified under each category. It is your (the student's) responsibility to keep track of assigned online work. Please observe proper courtesy as you would in person. Personal inquiries that contain sensitive matter should be discussed in person, unless there is a section provided for it in the message board.

When responding to the postings, please include your email to receive credit and/or grading. Otherwise, it is the prerogative of the professor whether or not to award the credit/grade.

Thank you very much. Happy browsing.

Sincerely,

Ida Carter

Carter - Pre AP Biology
This course strongly emphasizes the development of students' problem-solving, critical-thinking, and inquiry skills. It allows learners to conduct investigations that are relevant and that highlight experimental design.

Carter - AP Biology
This course is designed to give students the opportunity to experience the governing living systems taught in a format that will prepares them for the level of intensity they will experience in college level biology courses. The goal is to encourage students to develop college level inquiry methods while allowing them to earn college credit. It begins with a biochemical assessment of life followed by a study of cellular biology and genetics. Theories of evolution and common descent along with the five kingdom system of classification are used to explain the development and workings of organ systems and ecological interactions of species. Throughout the course, lab exercises are used to aid the study process and are inquiry-based in format. Students will take the AP exam at the conclusion of this course. This course will also allow students to become familiar with advance communication technologies and expand their understanding of how technology can be utilized in a learning environment.

Carter - Environmental Systems
Galian - Environmental Systems B
Galian - Robotics
This course counts as a 4th year science (HS graduation requirement) and deals with the topic on Robotics for the North Houston Early College High School campus (HISD). This course was designed to augment the STEM clubs robotics team (3823) and introduces new students into research and designing simple machines, computer programming, drafting, and electronic devices.

Galian - Pre AP Chemistry
This is a preparatory course for the AP Chemistry course to be offered next SY 2012-13. This course will develop a students' skills in scientific thought through the practice of chemistry. Students are expected to develop their skills in analytical and critical thinking, their use of technology, and their practice of laboratory protocols and etiquettes. Topics of study include: structure of matter, states of matter, reactions, descriptive chemistry, and experimental chemistry (laboratory).
