Read what students have to say about Mr. Galian:
Westbury High School, Summer School 2008 "I've learned a lot of different things I never knew.. I've learned more in summer school than I did the whole schoolyear. I've also got to teach the class about atomic structure." - Treasure Duncan "The different[nces] in chemical combustion and chemical formulas seemed to grab my interest and use the information for everyday life." - Dashunna McDougal "..I was surprised myself I have learned all this in summer school. This was the best summer school I ever had." - Priscilla Martinez "...What I like, is how the teacher explain[ed] the problem to me and how he tried to make me understand. I know that I cannot understand too much English and that is why I am taking summer school. ...I learned more than I imagined and I am proud of myself. My teacher did a great job teaching me Chemistry." - Daniel Echeverria "When I got to Chemistry A, I thought this class was not going to be interesting. When I met Mr. Galian, I learned new things that I never knew.. With Mr. Galian, I experienced what Chemistry is..." - Victor Escobar "At first I didn't understand... ...The teacher broke it down in a better way. I was able to participate in assignments and other activities." - Ma'quis Sanders "This summer program has been good for me. I learned many things." - Chanel Sandifer "In summer school [in Chemistry class], I never got balancing equations and now I have an idea of it. ...I also learned about my teacher, Mr. Galian. He is.. a good teacher even though he gets mad a lot. He's cool! He taught me more..." - Onassis Fernandez "[In summer school], I have went over and studied a semester of work in one month. Honestly, this month I have learned more, accomplished more, and understood Chemistry better." - Shanitra Graves "During the summer school session, I learned how to do electronic configuration. My summer school teacher went through it and showed me how to properly do it.: - Brandi Philips "Let's see, ...Richard loaded us up with so much knowledge in Chemistry, it's hard to just come up with 3 things. ...Richard explains it slowly and in detail, and I am like, I didn't think I would understand it so quickly. Now I am awesome in balancing equations. I was already good in electronic configuration and now, I got it even better - it's like second nature to me now. I mean, Richard was INSANE!!! He made us work our fingers to the bone! Just kidding, Richard was awesome. He explained things clearly and he asks his students what does he need to improve on to help us get better. ...He was also hilarious!" - Anthony Duvall "Being in this class, I have learned a lot. I have learned new things, ...the thing I liked the most were the hands-on experiments. Mr. Galian helped us understand and taught us concepts and skills. Being here challenged our thinking skills and made us look and understand things better, look over, and fully understand the problems through. There [were] many activities I enjoyed doing. - Mercedes Perez "The first day of summer school was very cool. I learned a lot from Mr. G on Bohr's models and covalent bonds, and balancing equations. The thing I like the most about him was that he was the most level-headed teacher I've had in school. However, he was strict when it came to grading my work. Having him around was very fun. Mr. G was a cool type of teacher... Having an [ex-]college teacher was very advanced and it forced me to learn more from him. - Senibo Briggs "Something I have learned in Chemistry B this summer school program from Mr. G is to learn how to ask questions and not be shy. I know it's not Chemistry-related, but Mr. G has opened my eyes and realized to have confidence in myself. And also get me ready for College. ...But, other than that, I had a fun time in this class. Mr. G was a good teacher and joyful person. That's what made it fun!" - Nariy Som "In summer school, it seems like I learned much more than during the schoolyear. ..Now, I understand everything better now." - Naomi Guerrier
University of Houston, Spring 2002 - Spring 2004 "Very effective teacher - I liked his methods of teaching" "Richard was a much better TA this time around. He expects a lot from us, but his expectations are attainable." "The Instructor was really prepared for the class and he understood the course. He made the class very understandable and easy" "I feel though the TA graded our class much harder than other classes." "Great TA. Go for perfection!" "Richard kicks a**!!" "I think this TA was a very good TA. I wish he was my organic II lab TA." "Hard TA, but he made sure that we knew proper techniques in doing the lab, which made our results more accurate. Thank you for preparing us for our future chemistry course. I feel the TA should not have just one consultation time." "Hated him, but was happy with how he made me a better person in terms of doing labs." "Richard did a great job. I would take another class taught by him." "Be easier on the quizzes. Richard is a good guy, great TA, but hard grader" "Richard was always knowledgeable and available for help, but his grading was harsh at times. Other than that, he is a great instructor." "He was scary at first, then kind of cool" "Nice, but kind of strict" "The TA was good. Sometimes, he can be a bit unfair to the class as a whole. I strongly believe that he was an excellent teacher. He took a lot of time outside of class to help the students. "Overall, the TA was a great instructor. His grading was a little too harsh. Lab grades were not high on average for this class" "Terrible grader."
