Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart Course: Regents Earth Science Course Syllabus 2008-2009 Required Materials Texts: Modern Earth Science published by Holt, Rinehart, & Winston @2002 Brief Review for New York Earth Science 2008 Edition published by The Princeton Review Binder: Students are expected to have 2 binders used only for this class. Assignments: Homework: This is assigned regularly and late homework is not accepted. Laboratory: Lab activities are a part of this course. It is important that students continually strive to improve their laboratory skills. This grade will take into account the student's preparedness for the lab, involvement in the lab activity , their ability to follow the written instructions that accompany the lab, and their usage of the equipment needed for the lab. Class Participation: Since participation is vital to the learning process, a grade will be awarded at the end of each quarter for class participation. This grade will take into account the student's general conduct, effort, cooperation, preparedness, and participation in classroom discussions throughout the quarter. Evaluation: Each assignment will be given a point value based on its importance on the assignment. This is done because some homework assignments are more challenging than other assignments. All assignments will fall under distinct categories. These will be weighted as follows: Activities/Homework 20% Laboratory Work 25% Quizzes and Tests 50% Participation 5% Requirements for passing the Earth Science course: Final Average of at least 65 Perform 1200 minutes of laboratory work Satisfactory laboratory reports on file. Classroom Policies Conduct: Students are expected to pay close attention to the teacher or other students who are participating in the class. Attendance and Make-Up Work: When a student misses a class for any reason, it is their responsibility to check with the teacher for any missing assignments/material. If a student misses a test of quiz, they should expect a more difficult version to be given them within one day of their return. Extra Help: Mrs. Brewer will be available for extra help during 8th period every day. Please arrange a time with me if you need to make up work or if you are having difficulty understanding the concepts presented in class.
