Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. I thought we had a very good year last year and I am excited to see how much more progress we can make this year. I will be handing out the instruments the first couple of days. If you have your own instrument you will need to bring it to class on Tuesday. We will start out the year by reviewing and finishing the last few pages of the EE Book I book that we used last year. When that is finished (in about 3 weeks) we will start on book 2. The school will furnish you with all of your music and a music folder. You will need to bring your instrument, music, music folder and a pencil to class every day. This year we will be doing pass-off tests. Pass-off tests will be given after each page of the method book and will only be a few measures long. However, to pass-off the material you will have to play it without any mistakes. You will be given several opportunites to pass-off during class time but you may also come in before or after school. If your instrument needs repair it will be sent to the repair shop on Mondays. It usually takes two weeks for the instrument to be repaired and returned. I will try to have an instrument for you to use while yours is being repaired. The school will pay for normal repair (pads, corks, stuck slides, re-adjustments, broken springs, re-sodered braces, etc.). You are responsible for repairs caused by neglect (broken mouthpieces, dropped instruments, etc.). Students are expected to take their instruments home on a regular basis. When taking your instrument home you must take it home in an instrument case. This year we will meet in the elementary music room. However, until the music room is ready we will meet in the High School Band Hall. I will meet you at the elementary school and walk you to the High School. In addition to the Christmas and Spring Concerts you will again attend the Highland Park Band Festival. After the festival we will eat and then go to Wonderland! As we begin the 4th week of school we are still reviewing last years book and trying to help the new students catch up with the rest of the class. The new students will continue to work out of Book I even after the other students move on to Book II. All students will be given a playing test when we finish each page or lesson.
