Sitton Spelling

Your child’s spelling program may be different from what you’ve come to expect as “spelling”.  Instead of weekly lists of words to memorize, this program emphasizes the learning of important words (words frequently used in writing), not for a Friday test, but for a lifetime of spelling in the real world- that is, spelling correctly in writing.

This lifelong spelling ability grows over time. It grows through skills instruction (phonics, word origins, spelling rules, usage, etc.) through your child’s everyday writing, and through word study on specific words your child has not yet mastered.

The program is based on 335 core words, which are the most frequently used words in the English language.  You can find the level three priority words and level three core words below. On this list, the words denoted with a * are those being introduced as level three words.  All of these words are used throughout the lessons we are completing.  In addition, the words that are frequently misspelled or used incorrectly in writing are transferred to a “Words to Practice” list.
