Blood Drive: The National Honor Society will be sponsoring its Annual Blood Drive with Life South on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 8:00am- 2:00pm in the Leopards’ Den. Please contact the school if you want an appointment to give blood. Fish Fry: Our MCS Fish Fry will be Nov. 7th from 10:30-2:30 at Azalea City Church of Christ on Schillinger Road. Please come out and buy a fish or chicken plate. Girl Scouts: The 2nd and 3rd grade Brownie Troop will meet on Nov. 4th and 18th at 3:15pm in the Leopards’ Den. Boy Scout Troop #59: The Boy Scouts (ages 11-16) will meet in the Cafeteria at 6:30 this Tues., Nov. 3. Thank you: Thank you to everyone who supported the NEHS Book Drive in the Upper Elementary building. The donated books were given to the USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. A total of 244 books were donated! Thank you for your kindness. Thank you to everyone who supported the 4th grade collection for UNICEF. Spelling Bee: The winners of the MCS Spelling Bee are 1st place: Becca Rittelmeyer; 2nd place: Andrew Ravine; and 3rd place: Mallory Helms. The 1st place winner, Becca, will receive 2 tickets to the GMAC Bowl game and will also advance to the county- level Spelling Bee to be held on February 5, 2010. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!! 3rd-6th Grade Girls: The deadline to join the MCS Lady Cubs Basketball Team is Nov. 6. Cost is $40 (please write checks to MCS). Applications should be turned into the Upper Elementary office. For information, contact Lynn Barnes (510-5099) or Scott Hardy (610-4571). Softball Tryouts: Softball Tryouts will start next Tuesday, Nov. 10-14 and 16 after school until 5:30. All 7-12 grade girls are eligible. If you are interested please sign the sign-up sheet on Coach Brian's door (Room 10). If you are playing basketball, you do not have to attend tryouts but make sure you sign the sheet. Varsity Football Banquet: We have come to the end of our football season this year and it is time for our annual football banquet. This year the varsity football banquet will be held on Nov. 16th at 6:00pm at Five Rivers on the Causeway. Anyone interested in attending the banquet, must sign up in the front office with Cathy Holmes by Tuesday, Nov. 10th. This cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. Everyone must have a paid ticket in order to attend the banquet. You must present it at the door. Sally Foster: All Sally Foster/Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough orders will be delivered on Thur, Nov. 5th. All cookie dough orders MUST be picked up on this day due to limited storage. If you are willing to help get orders together on Thursday, come to the Leopards’ Den at 8:30am on Thursday. If you have any questions or would like to help please contact April Walker at 406-0768. Krispy Kreme Donuts: The MCS Band and Girl’s Basketball teams will be selling Krispy Kreme Donuts on Tuesday mornings in front of the cafeteria from 7:00 until 7:45am. The cost will be 50 cents each or $5.00 for a dozen. Proceeds will benefit both programs. Recycling: The Robotics Team will be collecting recycling every Wednesday in the parking lot next to the Bible Wing from 3:30-4pm. Santa Claus is coming to town! Santa is coming to Regency Church of Christ to check his list twice on Saturday, Nov. 14th from 3-5pm. There will be plenty of treats so get there early to hear Santa read a story. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will also be available for picture taking after the story. These are ideal for your Christmas cards. Please bring a $15.00 (per family) donation to cover Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ trip from the North Pole. Leopard Pride Park: Leopard Pride Park is being constructed between the football field, playground, and softball field. It will enhance our campus by including decorative benches and pavers surrounding the oak tree. We have a finite number of blocks to sell and we are soliciting your help. If you would like to purchase a block please contact the front office. Parents: We are collecting the following items: Tyson Frozen Foods A+ labels, empty Capri Sun juice foil slips, Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Labels for Education, and Cartridges for Kids (old or used cell phones, empty ink & laser cartridges, Ipods, video games & DVDs). Health Concerns: We have several students out with colds and flu-like symptoms. Please keep your children at home for 24-hours after running fever or vomiting. Sending sick children to school will cause sicknesses to spread across campus and infect other children. We are continually wiping things down to decrease the spread of germs. Prices are as follows: Full size hot meals - $4.50 Kid’s size hot meal - $2.50 (PK3-5th only) 6" sub - $3.50 3" sub - $2.00 (PK3- 5th) Salads - $3.50 Chef’s salad - $4.00 Grilled Cheese- $2.00 Tea or Lemonade – sm. $ .50 and lg. $1.00 Milk or Juice - $.75 Athletics: Nov. 5th- 7th : Basketball Tournament at Baker (TBA) COUNSELOR’S CORNER – Mrs. Coker November 2, 2009 ACT/SAT DATES AND DEADLINES: (School code: 011-821) ACT Test Date Dec 12 Registration deadline without a late fee: Nov 6 SAT Test Date: Nov 7 Registration deadline without a late fee: Oct 1 Register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org and for the SAT at www.collegeboard.com. Mobile Christian School is now an ACT testing site. Our code is 231440. We will begin giving the test December 12. If you have already registered at another site, you can change your registration and test at MCS if you would like. **See Ms. Coker for a schedule of ACT Exam Reviews at the University of South Alabama. Register online at www.usacontinuinged.com. **All students in grades 9-12 have to complete service hours. You must complete 5 hours per year for a regular diploma and 10 hours per year for an honors diploma. ** 8th graders will switch electives on November 2. Archery students will go to Computer with Mr. Gallaher, Computer students will go to Creative Writing with Mrs. Hatcher and Creative Writing students will go to Archery with Mr. Walker. Troy University is hosting an event at Oak Hollow Farms on November 3 from 6-8. There will be food and give aways.
