Welcome to Mr. Pressler's English web page. I am excited to be returning to the English classroom this year. We will be focusing on a yearlong theme of perspective. My belief is that an individual's view of the world is greatly altered by the circumstances in which they live. In order to understand not only people's beliefs and views, but people in general, we must become "educated" in perspectives other than our own. That said we will be reading and examining literature from all around the world.
A small sample of the texts we will work with this year includes:
Native American work from both Sherman Alexie and Leslie Marmon Silko (and others)
African American work from Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Saul Williams and others
Hispanic / Latin work from Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Raul Salinas and Sandra Cisneros
Middle Eastern work from Khaled Hosseini
Environmentalist/Anarchist work from Edward Abbey
Alternative Lifestyle work from David Sedaris
