Curriculum
I update our curriculum weekly on Thursdays. Please check here weekly for upcoming tests and topics being discussed for the week. Reading/ Language Arts is a composite of Reading, Writing, Spelling and Vocabulary. We will be working on these skills the first few weeks together and break up into reading groups after that. February 13-17 In Reading this week, our story is "The Stormi Giovanni Club". It is the story of a young girl what has moved several times. Stormi decides that she is not going to make any new friends because it hurts too much when she has to move. At first, she sticks to this decision but a short while later, she realizes that making new friends isn't such a bad idea after all. Our comprehension skill this week is generalizing. This means to make a broad statement or rule that applies to several examples. We can learn about characters and situations in this way. Our vocabulary words this week are cavities, combinations, demonstrates, episode, profile and strict. We will also be discussing the twelve extra vocabulary words in Unit 4 in our supplementary books. In Grammar, we have finished discussing personal pronouns. This week we will learn about reflexive and demonstrative pronouns. Reflexive pronouns are made by a personal pronoun +self (ves). The demonstrative pronouns are this, that, these and those. Our Spelling words this week are words that have the suffix -ible or -able. -In Science, we are continuing our discussion of minerals and rocks. Our next chapter begins with a discussion of the parts of the earth - crust, mantle, inner core and outer core.We will discuss fossils this week -how the study of fossils began and how fossils form. In Religion, we will again look closely at the Sacrament of the Eucharist and begin to closely review the parts of the Mass. We will also discuss other names for the Eucharist - Blessed Sacrament, Breaking of the Bread, for example. Please see Mrs. Diamond's website for the Math and Social Studies curriculum.
