Our Curriculum
Reading and Phonics Reading at the Baker County Pre-K/Kindergarten Center is a 90 minute dedicated block of time where an initial instruction (ii) from the Comprehensive Core Reading Program (CCRP) of Macmillan/McGraw Hill Treasures. Each classroom also dedicates 30 minutes of uninterrupted time to differentiated instruction and guided reading focusing on individual student needs. Macmillan/McGraw Hill Treasures leveled readers and Triumphs Intervention, Scott Foresman My Sidewalks, Kindergarten Peer Assisted Learning (KPALS), Peer Assisted Learning (PALS), Sight Word, Learn to Read, and Dr. Maggie readers, are used as supplemental instructional materials. In addition, we use non-instructional staff (front office staff, resource staff, guidance staff, etc), along with the teachers, to provide immediate intensive interventions (iii) to struggling students, as determined by progress monitoring.
Saxon Phonics an explicit, systematic phonics program that provides continuous review and incremental development of reading skills, each building on previously learned information.
Math and Science Our core math program is Houghton-Mifflin Math. This is a comprehensive program that ensures math achievement through a strong focus on skill building, problem solving, and concept mastery for every level of learning.
SUMS is a inquiry based math and science program allows the teacher to use a variety of strategies and manipulatives in an effort to help the students develop a strong understanding of the concepts.
