Mass Media Washington Trip!!! La Sociedad Hispanica is finalizing plans for this year's Washington trip. The trip is currently filled but we are keeping a waiting list for those last minute bailers!!!
Cinco de Mayo!!!! Committees will form at the meeting on Tuesday, April 7. Come to the meeting to share your ideas!!!
October 5: The candy sale begins!! All Sociedad members will sell a mixed box of Gertrude Hawks bars. The sale will extend two weeks.
November 19: Coat Drive begins. Encourage your family to contribute their old but useable coats to our annual coat drive to help the needy. The drive concludes December 9.
TBA: Come join us for our first field trip to see the Spanish play, "Carnival Latinoamericano" at Nanticoke Area High School. The Trip will depart at the end of first period. Reservations are limited to 47 members. Cost of the trip is just $5.00!! (Are you beginning to see a theme here?)Lunch at el famoso :" Jardin de los Aceitunas" is additional. Sign up today!!
December 20: Spanish Caroling Project. Join your Hispanic Society friends singing Spanish Christmas carols throughout Riverside! Later that evening, we will celebrate the holiday spirit by going to dinner at Don Pablos. ¡Qué delicioso!
January 10: US Military 'Phone Home' Project begins. Encourage family, friends and community members to donate old-but-serviceable cell phones, phone chargers, and other phone accessories to our project. La Sociedad will turn the equipment over to the US military for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. The drive will end on February 10. Please help La Sociedad help our soldiers overseas!
TBA: "La Noche de Hockey". Once again, we will again travel to the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza for a night of hockey, at deeply discounted prices, ¡por supuesto! We will conclude the evening with dinner at La Tolteca, an authentic Mexican restaurant!! ¡Olé! Reservations are limited to 47 members. Cost of the trip is a fantastico* $5.00!! Sign up today!!
May 1: Washington Field Trip! More on this exciting trip in future notices. As is our policy, students will attend for a fraction of the actual transportation cost (not to exceed, well, $5.00!!). ¡Qué educacional!
TBA: By popular demand, La Sociedad will again host students from local schools for a Spanish play presented by the famed Boston Flamenco Ballet. The presentation is La Sociedad's gift to all students taking Spanish and to all members of our Hispanic community! Details will follow!
May 5: It's Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 with a festive holiday meal planned in conjunction with those wonderful 'amigos' on the cafeteria staff! We will also decorate the school to celebrate the occasion, so come to the April meetings with your very best ideas to help make this the most 'simpático' celebration yet!
¡Cómo! You're not a member of the most exciting group on campus? Just stop by Mr. Joyce's room (243) to sign up! All Spanish students in grades 9 to 12 and all hispanic students may join.
