Mrs. Pat Campo-Middle School Intervention Specialist

This year, I teach English Language Arts to 7th and 8th Grade students with Mrs. Cowen-Smith using a program called  Language!   It is a research based program designed for students showing deficits in ELA.  Some of the skills we focus on are spelling new high frequency words, prefixes, suffixes, antonyms, synonyms, attributes and analogies for meaning expansion of base words to improve spelling/writing skills.  We also focus on fluency, grammar, higher-order thinking, and written responses.  We will write multi-paragraph reports, expository essays, and business letters.  Mrs. Cowen-Smith and I work closely with Mrs. Mulvihill and Mrs. Patafio and the entire Middle School staff.

Requirements for this class are similar to those of other Middle School classes.  Our students must read 45 minutes, 6 nights per week.  Logs are to be kept by each student and will be checked weekly.  Homework, test scores, participation and preparedness will also be factored into report card grades!

For help finding books on your child's level, you can go to the Woodlawn Public Library where the librarian can help locate books on your child's level.  You can also visit Scholastic.com and click on to Book Wizard to locate more books.

In addition to Teaching 7th and 8th grade ELA,  I also teach 6th grade ELA with Mrs. Miklos and 6th grade Math with Ms. Sebastian.
