From the Desk of Teacher Jawad, OIA High School Homeroom Teacher:
As Salaam Alaikum and welcome to the Oregon Islamic Academy's 9th-12th grade web page. My name is Teacher Jawad, and I will be your child's homeroom teacher. This will be my 15th year at ISMET/OIA; I am excited about starting another journey with our wonderful students. I will teach AP English and American Literature, as well as World History, and SAT Prep. My fellow high school teachers and I look forward to an excellent year in which students will meet academic challenges as well as learn more about themselves and their Islamic characters as young adults while on the path to institutes of higher learning and beyond. Insha'Allah, these are the students who will develop into proud and committed Muslims who will lead our community to the forefront of bridge-building dialogue, faith-based community service, and stewardship of Earth and humanity.
Make sure to check out all the happenings in each class by clicking on the "Classroom News" tab on the left navigation bar.
May Allah (SWT) bless our new school year and make it one that is full of accomplishment and success for all; ameen.
From the Desk of Teacher Soudad, OIA High School Arabic - Advanced, & Quran Teacher:
Assslamu Alikum Dear Parents;
I am Teacher Soudad. I came from Iraq. I have an Arabic language and Social Studies Degree from Baghdad. I was a teacher for 15 years in Iraq and Jordan, and this will be my first year at the Oregon Islamic Academy. I will be the Arabic language and Quran teacher for OIA students. I look forward to a wonderful year, inshaAllah!
From the Desk of Teacher Yusef, OIA High School Biology & Computer Science Teacher:
We humans fear what we do not understand, and someone wise once said that fear leads to anger, anger to hate, and hate to suffering. I believe that we can make the world a better place and grow as human beings if only we try to understand those things that would otherwise defy our intellect. To me, this is the definition of science and I take it as my life's work to promote its message of peace and understanding.
I graduated from Lewis & Clark college in 2012 with my BA in Chemistry and worked there as a tutor during my student years. Upon graduation I was employed there as adjunct instructor from 2012 to 2014. My strengths are in presenting difficult concepts in a fun and palatable way that speaks to everyone's innate sense of curiosity.
Allah has created a magnificent and sometimes mysterious world for us to reside in, it is only right that we try to understand it, and in doing so come to a better understanding of our Creator.
