HOMEWORK TIPS FOR PARENTS · Establish rules for completion of homework. · Check your child's homework sheet or agenda with them. This is their responsibility. · Make sure your child has a quiet and well lit area in which to do homework, preferably the same place every day. · Make sure your child has the necessary supplies to complete the assignment. · Establish a time that homework will be completed. You have to determine if your child works best right after school, before dinner, after dinner etc. · Reduce distractions. · Encourage your child to ask for help. · Be in the vicinity of your child while they are completing their homework. You do not have to sit next to them the entire time. · Keep track of how long (on task) it is taking your child to complete the assignment. If it is taking too long or appears too difficult notify the teacher. · Help your child study for tests/quizzes. · IF your child refuses to complete their homework let the natural consequences occur in school the next day. · Verbally praise your child! · Homework is given daily per district policy. It should never take your child more than 30 minutes to complete homework. Any homework given has been taught and reviewed thoroughly in class, so if your child is unable to do it, there is a problem. Please do not ever hesitate to contact me. I welcome parent interaction. Feel free to jot me a note, or send an email to school – manningna@egcsd.org. I am able to check my mail prior to school, during gym, etc, and at the end of the day. If you’d rather have a conversation, you can call the school, but I won’t be able to take the call until after the students have left, or during special – 10:20-11:00.
