Homework
Grade One
Sanborn School
Dear Parents:
Your first grader will receive homework in Language Arts on Mondays and Math homework on Wednesdays (subject to change, of course!). We would like any written work returned the following day. We realize that at times family schedules might make this impossible. In these instances, please see that the work is returned as soon as possible.
Our homework assignments will be meaningful tasks that may serve as reinforcement, review, or practice. Your child should not have to spend more than 30 minutes on the homework assignment. Some of the homework is designed to be done with family members. However, even independent tasks need parental involvement. Always check your child's work and sign it. Assignments should be completed neatly and accurately. All work should be done in PENCIL only, unless it specifies to use crayons. Your child's name should appear on all assignments.
Parents often wonder, "Should I correct my child's mistakes? How will the teacher know he/she is having a problem?" Our advice is to gently point out the mistakes to your child and use that opportunity to clarify the skill. Should he/she experience any difficulty with the assignments, please let us know.
We feel that good homework habits begin at this level. A portion of uninterrupted time should be allotted for the work to be done. We suggest that a quiet and unhurried atmosphere prevail. In addition, homework may also be assigned as individual needs dictate and there will be occasional special projects.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping to make homework a meaningful experience for all.
Sincerely,
The First Grade Team
