Welcome to John F. Kennedy School and the 2008-09 school year. I am proud to be John F. Kennedy's principal. We have a wonderful school with a warm, family feeling. If you ever have questions or concerns about anything at Kennedy, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have been in education since 1972. I have been a teacher in grades 2-9, a learning consultant, and a principal. I did my undergraduate work at Michigan State University and have a master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision from Oakland University. More recently, I completed a second master's degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Michigan. On the big game day (MSU vs. U of M), I win no matter what the outcome might be! In my personal life, I live in Waterford in the home in which I grew up, have two cats named Elvis and Gingersnap that are new to my home after I lost my previous cats this past summer. I have a sister and brother, four nieces, a great nephew who has a new baby girl (a great, great niece!) and another great nephew who was born at 5:30AM on September 10th, 2008. My major goal as JFK's principal is to make sure your child(ren) are happy and are learning what they need to know to learn to be productive citizens of the United States. On paper, it sounds easy enough, but there can be bumps in the road on the way. Always know that lines of communication are open, and I need to hear from you when you are not happy about anything that happens within our school. We are very proud of our volunteers at JFK. If you'd like to volunteer in your child's classroom, contact the teacher. If you'd like to be a volunteer reader, contact Paula Tucker at 248-586-8795. Kennedy is working to attain "Green School" status this year. There is a teacher committee working on the recycling piece of this status and parent team working on many of the other aspects. We always need more help in this and other committees. Please come to PTA meetings the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30PM to see how you can help. JFK has many active scouting groups. If you'd like your child to be a scout, call the office and we can put you in touch with the appropriate leader. We'll need a new Daisy Scout leader (kindergarten age) this year, so if you're interested, let me know! Again, have a wonderful school year! We're glad you're part of the Kennedy family! March is Reading Month! Each day in March we do something special to celebrate reading. On each Tuesday and Friday we ask students to wear something special to celebrate the month. Please use the link below to go directly to that calendar!
