This is my twelfth year teaching English at Sacred Heart Academy and my seventh year coaching our mock trial team. I am also the moderator for the Franciscan Scholars Program. This year I am teaching the following courses: Honors English 9, American Literature, and Advanced Placement in English Language and Composition. The ninth grade course in Honors English serves as an introduction to Western literature and includes Greek mythology, classical texts, and major works of fiction. The eleventh grade course, American Literature, is a study of major texts in American literature from colonial times to the present. The course in Advanced Placement in English Language and Composition is a college level course that also focuses on texts in American literature; however, in this advanced course, students are encouraged to analyze the relationship between style and substance. In both the American Literature course and in the Advanced Placement course, students gain a deeper understanding of the country we call “America.” Currently, I hold permanent New York State certification in the following areas: Secondary English 7-12, School District Administration, and Elementary Education Nursery-6.
