WHAT EVERY ATHLETE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR COACH
Your coach has spent many years and much time developing his philosophy. It will not be changed because a parent, booster, or star athlete thinks it should be done another way. Give your coach your undivided attention and listen to what they say, you may be pleasantly surprised at the success you’ll have.
Your
coach is going to drive you harder and further than you think you can go at
times. This is not to punish you, but to make you better. The body only becomes
stronger and faster when it is pushed to new limits. Work hard for your coach
and yourself.
Your
coach will get on you from time to time to correct any mistakes or errors you
are making. This is not a personal attack because he doesn’t like you. Quite
the contrary, it is done because they care about you and want to see you
improve. Your coach is not out to get you, but to help you.
Your
coach cares about you as a person and not just as an athlete. The greatest
compliment a coach can receive occurs ten years after your track seasons have
ended and you have found happiness and success in your life. And, through your
participation in athletics, you have learned to be a more considerate person.
Your
coach is trying as hard as anybody to do a good job. Help him out by making a
total commitment to improving yourself. Half efforts are a waste of your time
and the coach’s time and effort. If you give half an effort you will end up
disliking the coach, the team, and yourself. If you can’t put forth your best
effort, you need to reevaluate why you are out in the first place.
