Important Announcements and Reminders

We made a few minor changes to the grading scale during our Professional Development Day two weeks ago.  I have posted the grading scale under the Classroom Policies section.  The changes clarify which percentages qualify as + and - on the grading scale.

This Week in Ms. Johnson's Room

Math:  We will continue practicing multiplying by one digit multipliers with and without regrouping.  Front-end estimation was introduced on Monday.  The kids had fun estimating products into the billions!  Can you use front-end estimation to solve 23,456,783,140 x 4?  We can!

Science:  This is review week.  We finished our discussion of density on Monday and will review for next week's test the rest of the week.  We begin a research project this week too.  More details will follow as we progress in our work.

Social Studies:  The chapter 2 test is Tuesday.  We will learn how to read a time zone map this week.

Reading:  Parts of a book will be discussed and the students will take part in a scavenger hunt using their social studies book.  We will begin the next story late in the week, so it will be continued after Thanksgiving.

English:  The focus this week is on helping verbs.  We will learn a song to help us remember them!  Look for us on video next week!

Religion:  We will focus on PeaceWorks this week as we discuss the fouls including the worst one of all...cruel humor.

Spelling/Handwriting:   Vocabulary Workshop unit 5 is due Tuesday, November 24.  This is the first closed book test!  Since we are not in school next Wednesday, there will not be a new spelling unit assigned before Thanksgiving!  Instead, we are working on writing a poem.  Hopefully, this will be our first published piece posted on the wiki!  Now that we have practiced and reviewed all of the cursive letters, we will focus on improving connections and spacing.
