Why Mrs. Whitehead wanted to be a teacher Teaching is not only one of the hardest, most crucial jobs in the world, but also one of the most beneficial. Teachers shape and mold the lives of many children. I have always known that I wanted to make a positive impact in our world, and I believe that I can do this best through teaching. I cannot remember wanting to do anything else. I did not becoming a teacher because it provided me with a career opportunity, although I am fortunate enough that it does. But I feel like it is almost ‘a calling’. Friends, family and even those I do not know have labeled me as ‘a kid magnet’. I have always had a great deal of compassion and respect for children. I have a passion to change students’ lives through education, and I hope that through my enthusiasm and love each student that enters my classroom will reach his/her full potential. Throughout my life I have devoted myself to children and want to ensure the academic success of all children.

I was able to live in Europe for three months and work with children of various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Not speaking the same language as many of the children I interacted with allowed me to learn how similar we are as human. Each child has a yearning to be accepted. In order to create an academic haven where children feel successful no matter their background, economic situation or ability level children must understand that their ideas are encouraged and valid. I feel that it is important for each student to feel successful. It is important for me to create a classroom that will challenge students to reach their full potential. I have also been fortunate enough to see many of the priceless benefits teaching has to offer, such as seeing students progressing academically, emotionally and socially. As Anne Frank once said, “How wonderful it is that no one need stop trying to change the world.”

I felt that it was important for me to earn my masters degree because I see myself as a highly motivated professional who brings a strong sense of commitment and high morals to my work. This is also why I have taken advantage of extra classes and seminars throughout my career to fulfill my love for learning and benefit my students.
