Hats for Charity!
Mrs. Thonus

Third graders will be sewing fleece hats for The Baby Center in Hyannis and Angel House. Parent volunteers armed with sewing machines will help our students create winter hats for babies who might need special, handmade, fleece hats from a bunch of caring children at Marstons Mills East HMCS.

Look for some photos of this project in the near future on the M.M.E. website. The Baby Center and Angel House provides clothing and baby supplies for families that need them. Thank you, volunteers, for all of your support of our effort to contribute to our Cape Cod community. Holiday Gathering
Mrs. Thonus

A wonderful third grade tradition is our Holiday Gathering. Each classroom is assigned a holiday to explore with the children. Our holiday is Hannukah!

We will be sharing a story and song with other third graders at the Holiday Gathering in December. Traditional holiday treats will also be enjoyed by all! Holidays studied by third graders this year will be Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas in Mexico, Christmas is Hawaii, and Christmas in Sweden.

The Report on Reports
Mrs. Thonus

Hooray for Book Reports! Book Reports are due December 15. Hopefully, the class will use their time wisely and not leave the book reports to the last minute. This would certainly cause stress for everyone! Learning how to handle long term assignments is a critical life skill. Even as adults, we occasionally need to accomplish projects on a schedule.

In addition to helping the student to learn how to handle long term projects, the book report reinforces the skill of writing a summary and encourages accountability for the 20 minute, nightly reading, homework assignment. Daily reading is essential for the development of vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension. If you haven't done so yet, please see the WHY NIGHTLY READING? article on this website. The effect of nightly reading really adds up!

Reports may be turned in early.

Remember, you are your child's best lifelong teacher. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. My email address is dthonus@yahoo.com. If you lose the book report form you can find it on this site. Click here for Form. If you copy and paste it into a word document you can edit it for better line spacing, etc.
