My Supply List School Supplies

                   Supplies for Jr. High English

NOTE: All students should have an assignment book. It can be as simple as a spiral notebook BUT students need someplace to write their assignments daily. A pocket calendar would also be helpful so they can keep track of their extra-curricular activities along with their assignments. I purchase a small calendar each year at Wal-Mart for about $5.00. It is usually available around July or August and has a space for daily note as well as a monthly calendar. For most students, it's a perfect and affordable option.

Have these in class daily:

1) Loose leaf notebook paper (wide or college ruled)
Be sure to get enough for the whole year. ALL written assignments (except journals) are to be completed on notebook paper rather than in spiral notebooks.

2) Blue or black ink pens AND sharpened pencils: Pencils are to be used only for 1st drafts of essays while all other assignments must be completed using blue or black ink

3) A composition book for your personal journal. (This is needed only for 7th graders.) Please get a composition book rather than a spiral notebook because pages will be less likely to tear out.

Keep these at home:

1) One-inch binder with five dividers labeled as follows: English, Literature, Writing, Vocabulary, Miscellaneous

2) About 400 3X5 index cards: These may be any color and may be lined or unlined. Generally, it's cheaper to buy these cards at the beginning of the school year when school supplies are on sale. (8th graders: If you have your cards for Roots 1,2 and 3 plus all of your SAT vocabulary cards, then you don't need to buy additional cards this year!)

3) 15 zip-lock bags to store your vocabulary cards. (8th graders: If you have your cards organized for Roots 1,2 and 3 plus all of your SAT vocabulary cards, then you don't need to buy zip lock bags for this year!)
