Meet the Teacher

Welcome to my site! My name is Laura Stluka, and I'm a graduate of Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University). I am married to Thomas Stluka and we have two children, Trevor and Ashley. Although I wasn't raised in Shiner, I moved here twenty-three years ago and am proud to call it home. I love teaching - especially jr. high students! It is NEVER boring! I teach English to 7th graders and Language Arts to 8th graders. I've been teaching long enough that I've begun teaching the children of those I've taught which is very special! My time away from school is spent with my husband and children supporting them with their many activities. It's a real joy attending their practices, games and recitals. When I have free time to spend on MY interests, I read -mysteries are a particular favorite- and scrapbook. I also enjoy spending time cooking and baking. My very favorite family activity is traveling. There's always a trip in the planning stages even if it's just a short distance away! If your child is in my class, please feel free to contact me with questions and/or concerns. Regular communication between home and school leads to more success in the classroom as well as less stress at home. If you do call me at home, please remember to leave your name AND phone number since I don't keep school records at home. Also, I'm an "early-to-bed, early-to-rise" person so please don't call after 9:00 p.m.
