We will have Our Alaskan Adventure the week of October 22nd-26th. During this week we will spend the afternoon exploring some of Alaska's great resources. My goal is to incorporate all aspects of our curriculum into our adventure. This page will have the links that we visit each day. I am hoping that your child will share with you all that we have learned. I am also planning to add pictures of our activities. The pictures will be on a password protected page. I will send home the password in our Monday newsletter. Pictures will be added as I take them. Click onto the colored links to see what we have seen in class. ********************************************************* On Monday we are going to have an introduction to Alaska. We will explore Enchanted Learning's Alaskan page to learn about the size and other important information. We will then go on a Riverboat Tour to learn about the Alaskan Natives. We will see many totem poles and then we will create our own. Each totem pole told a story about the creator or the tribe. Ours will tell a story about us. Tuesday: Due to technical difficulties we did not go on our Riverboat Tour yet. So I am hoping we can get that in today. Today we are going to talk about Alaska weather. This site will show us the Earth's revolution. By viewing this we hope to become more familar with why we have the different seasons. We will also discover the beautiful sights of the Auroa Borealis aka Northern Lights. Here are some sights to explore: Alaska Auroa Auroa's Paintings in the Sky Auroa Slideshow Now let's generate our own. Northern Light Generator Wednesday: Today we will learn about the landforms that are in Alaska along with the animals that live there. Virtual Zoo Landforms in Alaska Glacier Story Here you can see and hear glaciers calf. Thursday Today we will find out about the Alaskan Gold Rush. We will see a video on how gold is panned and then we will see if we can find any gold ourselves. We will use a modified procedure. The class will see a video of how it is really done. Here is a video you can watch at home to see the procedure. To see the video just click onto the arrow in the middle of the screen. Friday: Due to weather we didn't get to go pan for gold yesterday, I do hope this afternoon's weather is better. I was hoping to spend the day getting all of the booklets ready to go into our lapbook but it may spill over into next week. I do hope everyone enjoyed the adventure and learned something they didn't know about Alaska. I am sorry to report that my camera is officially broken. I am hoping this weekend to get it fixed.
