Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday, February 25th. We skip Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorates the Resurrection. .In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent officially ends at sundown on April 9th (Holy Thursday), with the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper. The week before Easter we call Holy Week In most churches, the decorations are purple or blue, royal colors to prepare for the King. We spend time during this most holy season, getting closer to Jesus. There are many ways to do this, prayer is the most popular. In the Catholic Church there is a popular prayer that is usually prayed on Fridays. This prayer is the Stations of the Cross. You don't have to go to church to pray the stations. Here is a site that has the stations drawn by a 7th grade. It'a great place to sit and pray this very special prayer. Stations of the Cross for Children If you would like to learn more about this holy season visit Our Sunday Visitor , this site is a great resource. As I come across more sites I will post them here. Keep coming back to see what I have found. updated 2/24/09
