Everything you ever wanted to know about 1st grade Back to School Night!

Welcome to our Back to School Night.

I will use this page to guide us through our presentation.

Morning Routine:

Students are expected to come in , unpack, order lunch, put any money, notes in my purple basket and then sharpen pencils. Prayers start at 8:00 so they should be in the classroom by 7:50 to accomplish all of this. Please send all money in a well marked envelope. You should have your child's name, room number and the purpose of the money.

Homework- I do not believe in giving a lot of homework but the homework I give I do expect to be done in a neat and orderly fashion. A homework grade will be added at the end of the trimester. I will grade not on accuracy but completion. If your child is having trouble with the work PLEASE let me know. Homework is meant as a review not as a teaching tool. If you are spending a lot of time reteaching the homework please inform me of this.

It is very important to have communication between home and school. Monday folders and website are just 2 ways we can communicate information regarding your child. Please know that I am available for conferences most days. E-mail, notes and phone calls are other ways we can stay connected.

Discipline: "Green" team

             Behavior Bingo

Absentees- If your child is absent I can send in the work with either a sibling or a neighbor. Have the child who is picking their work up come in the morning to let me know that they will be picking it up. I will have it ready by 2:00.

Reading- Daily 5 workshop- Tuesday through Friday students will be given the choice of either reading to themselves, reading to someone, listening to a story, working with words and writing. They will choose 2 each day. I will work with each child in a group also each day to introduce and review reading skills which will make them a more active reader.

Scholastic book club is a good way to build up your home library. Ordering online  is easy and it's great if you want to buy books for presents. You can charge your online purchases to your credit card. If you are buying books for a birthday or Christmas present let me know so I don't give it to your child. I will call you when the books arrive and we arrange a way for you to pick them up.

Math- Students must know their math facts. This year our main focus  we will be working on learning addition and subtraction facts up to and including 12. We wil also work with money, telling time, fractions and word problems.

Religion- This year we will learn more about the Catholic faith. We will attend Mass once a month.

SS- We will focus on communities and neighborhoods. We also will be collecting postcards.

Science We began with living and nonliving from there we will go to plants, animals and then extend to space and magnets.
