In class I read the book The Hundred Penny Box to the students. It's a story about a women who is 100 years old and she has a penny for every year that she has been living. She uses these pennies to tell her great great nephew the story of her life. I thought what a fun way to write an autobiography!
Our project is just that, to write an autobiography using pennies, pictures and captions.
I am giving each student a piece of cardstock to use for their project. They will need to find a penny for each year that they have been living. So if they were born in 1999 then they would a find a penny from then until 2007. They are to glue the pennies onto the cardstock, find a picture from that year and then write a caption telling what the event was. They may draw lines or use ribbon or yarn to connect the events. Be creative! Make sure there name is on the front. I am sure people will be interested to see who they are reading about.
Have fun with this!! Project is due on Thursday January 24th.
If you need help in finding a penny or 2 ask me, I do have some at school that I will gladly give to the students. If your child would like to type up their captions and then cut them out and glue them onto the paper that would be fine. Please remind them to only use a little bit of glue when gluing pictures or their captions. They may need more glue to attach their pennies.
Any questions or concerns please ask me.
