            In 1980, on what can only be described as a glorious March afternoon, John and Linda Poynter gave birth to what they didn’t know at the time would be one of the greatest men to ever walk the planet.  And they named him Christopher.

             I was born and raised in Troy, Ohio.  Three days after graduating high school I left for the Marine Corps infantry.  I spent four years in the Marines during which I learned a lot.  Some things useful to civilian life, some not so much.  I decided to leave the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in June of 2002.  I was attending college classes two weeks later.  Since my infantry training qualified me to do two things in civilian life, a security guard or a bartender, I began tending bar on the weekends.  Four and a half years later I graduated Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health Education.  Three months after graduating I was called in for an interview to Westerville, a town I had never heard of before and even forgotten filling out the application for.  I agreed to a 7 am interview, hung up the phone and Google mapped where this town was at.  Ouch, an hour and a half away!  That was an early morning, but everything worked out for the best and I have been teaching at Westerville North High School since 2007.  This is an amazing town and I truly enjoy every day I get to spend teaching in it.

             In class we will be doing some things a little different than the students are used to and some things will be more familiar.  I am passionate about the subjects I teach and hope that passion will carry over to the students.  Either way they are fast pace, high intensity classes so be ready to hit the ground running.  We don’t get a lot of time together and we’re going to use every minute as effectively as possible.

             Grades for all classes are kept on PowerSchool.  Click the link below the PowerSchool log to be directed to the appropriate page.

This is a little homage to the Crash Davis speech of Bull Durham;

             I believe in the soul, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good beer, nothing is sexier than a female sports fan wearing her team’s ball cap while letting the official know just how she felt about that last call. I believe in Barry Larkin & Johnny Bench, that comedies are the best movies, that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, that farts should always be funny, and that I don't need a plot out of my movies...just more one-liners than I could possible memorize in 5 viewings. I believe in the sweet spot, dime-a-dog nights, jersey's with my name on the back, 3-day weekends, opening your presents Christmas Eve rather than Christmas morning, weekend movie marathons, the Thurman Burger, and that Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame.  I believe that right now the Pirates think they’re a triple A farm system, that the Dusty Baker is a horrible manager, and that the Reds are 2 players and 1 good manager away from taking the NL Central.

            I don't believe in AstroTurf, abuse of women, the designated hitter, Chad Johnson, or changing your last name to a number.  I don’t believe in stadiums and ballparks with roofs, the fair catch, or that anyone who has been convicted of using a performance enhancing drug should be allowed in any statistical history book (sorry Manny, Ortiz and ARod).  I don’t believe in an excuse for drunk driving, musicals, long winters, white shell necklaces on men, throw pillows on the bed, players who hold out for more money, overpriced concessions at any event, and men with shoe collections.
