Soap Bubbles

The Science of Soap Bubbles

In preparation of our exploration of cells and the molecules of life, we will explore the role self-assembly plays in creating structures like those present in cell membranes (a fancy word for the "skin" of a cell).

For at least the next two weeks we will be running experiments to determine what factors lead to creating a long-lasting soap bubble.

Here's our five day plan.  Please note this is subject to change if you require more time to understand this information.

Day Topic/Activity Goals
1 Zubbles/See-Think-Wonder
Students will understand:

1.  The role that invention plays science, engineering and entrepreneurship.
2 Inventor's Story/Main Idea
3 Lab 1/Thin films
4 Lab 2/Proportions
5 Lab 3/Factors & Variables

Day 1 Activity:

  1. Fill out today's handout with your name, date and today's learning goals.
  2. Select and view one of the pictures at the Zubbles website.
  3. Complete the See-Think-Wonder section of today's handout.
