Fourth Annual National DNA Day High School Essay Contest
Open only to grades 9-12
The contest aims to challenge students to examine, question, and reflect on the important concepts of genetics. Essays are expected to contain substantive, well-reasoned arguments indicative of a depth of understanding of the concepts related to the essay questions. Only 9th - 12th grade students are eligible this year. All essays must be received by March 16, 2009 by 5:00 pm EST. All submissions must be electronic. We Can Change The World Challenge
The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge gives students the opportunity, tools and inspiration to become those agents of change. Beginning in the Fall semester through March of the next year, middle school student teams from across the country will be challenged to create sustainable, reproducible environmental improvements in their local communities
Junior First Lego League (Robotics)
Registration occurs in the Fall (August to mid-October).
Created in partnership with the LEGO Group, Junior FIRST LEGO League (JFLL) is geared to children aged 6 to 9 years old and utilizes a modified FIRST LEGO League (FLL) framework. Teams of up to 6 children and an adult mentor receive a mini challenge, based on the annual FLL research project. Using an open-ended LEGO building set, they will design a model depicting an aspect of this year’s "Nano Quest" Challenge. Children will spend approximately one month exploring, investigating, designing and building a model made with LEGO bricks. In conjunction, teams create a "Show Me" poster that depicts the teams’ experience during this process, through drawings and words.

2009 Cliff Weiss Memorial Essay Contest
Deadline: Feb 13, 2009.
The 2009 topic is "What would you tell President Obama about your CTE experience?"
Maximum Award: $250 and publication in ACTE's Techniques Magazine. Eligibility: students enrolled in at least one CTE course.
