Please remember to have your child wear a white shirt and black (or dark) pants/jeans for our Thanksgiving performance on Monday!!

We have our Unit 2 (People and Places) social studies test scheduled for next Tuesday, November 22nd.  A set of vocabulary cards was sent home at the beginning of this unit to give students additional time to master the vocabulary terms and definitions.  Knowing each vocabulary word, along with the definition, will be important information to know for the test.

We have studied all of the material covered on the test in class. I will continue to review the content matter. Please review the concepts at home, too.   Concepts on the test will include:

·        Knowing what a globe is, and that it is a model of the earth

·        Being able to identify that California is a state and not a city, country, or continent

·        Being able to locate labeled continents and oceans on a map

·        Knowing what ocean is located near California

·        Being able to identify a map that has a picture of California on it

·        Knowing the definition of what a model is, and being able to identify a picture showing a model

·        Being able to look at a map and locate various places using positional words such as below, next to, beside, near, up, and across

·        Knowing the differences between a model and a picture

·        Knowing what a map legend is, and being able to apply the information to a map

·        Knowing which direction north, east, south, and west is on a map

·        Knowing the definition for the term weather

·        Being able to identify a picture showing which type of clothing would be appropriate to wear in hot weather or cold weather

·        Being able to identify what types of jobs people may have if they live near oceans or rivers (for example, fishing)

Remember that you all have access to the Social Studies tools that we use in our classroom. Go to http://www.cahss.com/sf/client/login/login.html.  Everyone’s login password is “password”.

Thank you,

Mrs. DeLorenzo

Dear Parents,

Every week your child will bring home their “Anthology” hard cover reading book.  We will have practiced the story throughout the week, so your child will know what story to read.  After reading, please follow the comprehension questions on the last page.  Your child should return the parent letter signed and the reading book the next dayIt is very important that the reading book comes back promptly because we will be using the book again in class.  Thank you for your understanding and support in your child’s reading!

Happy Reading!

Miss McCarthy J
