Introduction to Wikis

Wikis are web pages that can be revised and edited by more than one person.  I am a new user of a wiki and I was amazed how easy it is to use.  The wiki page you create and edit looks similar to a word processing page. There are free resources available to make your own wiki.  Try it!  It is much easier to make than a website and the wiki can be set up in a matter of minutes.  You will be amazed at the wiki web page you can make in collaboration with your students.

Introduction to Wikis
This is a wiki that introduces you to a wiki.  This wiki notes the educational benefits and it also notes concerns. http://web2tutorial.wikispaces.com/wikis

This is an article to introduce you to wikis.  The article is from School Library Journal – 2005.

This is another good ‘how to article’ on wikis.   You may need to copy and paste the link into your browser in order for it to work.

Some introductory videos on wikis:
I think this video is one of the best that I have seen that introduces how useful a wiki can be.  Four friends are planning a camping trip and see how the wiki is used as a great collaboration tool.
