Here are some great ideas and tricks for studying spelling words. The folded paper activity is great for memorizing anything! For spelling, fold a paper lengthwise two times to make four columns. CAREFULLY, copy your "target" word at the top of the first column. Trace over the letters, saying them out loud, and then read the word out loud. Do this 3 times. Fold this column under so you can't see the word. Try writing the word at the top of the second column. If you get it correct, go on to your next "target" word. Target words are the words you do not know how to spell yet. If you did not get the word correct, go back to the first column and retrace the letters and say the word 3 times. Then fold the columns under two times to see just the third column and try spelling the target word again. Another technique is to look for smaller word segments within a larger word. Also, pronouncing the word the way it is spelled may help. I still need to say Wednesday in three syllables when I spell it. Good Luck and study hard!
