HEALTH SERVICES

At

Meadow Brook

Carol Kasper RN, BSN   8:45am-3:30pm

Peggy Gelinas, Health Secretary  8:30am-3 pm

Health services at Meadow Brook Elementary are provided by a team of experienced health professionals.  Carol Kasper, RN, BSN, School Nurse and Peggy Gelinas, Health Secretary have many years of experience caring for children.

At Meadow Brook we provide emergency first aid and care for acute illnesses. We can administer medications for your child with a physician’s order. A child with a special health problem will have an individualized care plan written for them and that problem will be monitored throughout the year.  The East Longmeadow Public Schools has a Life Threatening Allergy Policy that is in place to protect our children with food allergies.  (See District Policies)

We conduct various screenings throughout the year to monitor the health of our children. A screening for pediculosis is done on all children in September.  Hearing and vision screenings are done at kindergarten screening and for all first and second graders in the fall.  Height and weight is screened, and BMI computed for all first and second grade children in the winter months.   Any screening can be done at a parent or teacher’s request at any time.

Parents sometimes have questions regarding when a child who has been ill may return to school.  The East Longmeadow Public Schools has guidelines regarding communicable diseases.  As always, it is best to keep your child home until they are feeling well enough to learn and participate fully.

Please contact us with any questions regarding your child’s health.
