Physical Education Homework
* Kindergarten & 1st Grade
2008 - 2009 SCHOOL YEAR Kindergarteners should be practicing tying their sneaker laces! Students are being encouraged to ask for help from their parents and older siblings. Ideas for practice include practicing during car trips, practice while watching TV, designating 5 minutes every night for practice. We are looking for kindergarteners to be able to tie their sneakers by December of 2008.
1st graders are expected to know how to tie their sneakers. If they have not mastered this skill yet they need to be practicing every night!
* 3rd, 4th & 5th Grades
3rd, 4th and 5th graders are encouraged to practice doing 20 push-ups and 40 sit-ups -5 times a week. These exercises are necessary to build up students upper body strength and abdominal strength and prepare them for the FITNESSGRAM fitness test that is administered two (2) times a year (once in the fall and again in the spring). Upper body strength and curl-ups are two of the areas that are tested. A month before the test is administered a "homework calendar" will be sent home. Students are required to keep track of their push-ups and sit-ups for that month prior to the fitness test. Information specific to this homework assignment will be provided when the calendar is handed out.
