Free Response and multiple choice prep:

1.  Reaction prediction {types:  addition, subsitution, esterification, combustion, synthesis, decompostion, single replacement, double replacement, complex redox (acidified), complex ion, atypical, electrolysis, Lewis acid-base.}  Be sure to understand the 5 main groups from last year!  As slways be able to balance. And look over common acidified substances.  You have a multiple choice question that asks what 2 often seen reactants turn into in an acidified solution.

2.  Stoichiometry  common problems (mass to mass etc...)

Emipircal formulas (percent to mass, mass to mol, divide by small, multiple til whole)

Know the difference between empirical and molecular formulas

Gas stoich 1 mol = 22.4L at STP

Thermo stoich 1mol =  given delta H provided (remember the cooking egg demo)

3.  Thermodynamics  (3 main topics = enthalpy, entropy, and free energy)  Know name to symbol.

     Enthalpy - found three ways

                1.  calorimetry (know equation and what all variables stand for and how to calculate heat released or absorbed in a calorimeter.  Know all definitions in notes on calorimetry.

                2.  Hess's Law of Additivity (know how to solve these problems- you have practice problems completed as homework and a couple in your notepacket).

                3.  Hess Law (products - reactants equation) - sorry I can't really put symbols into this text!

Entropy - be able to predict the sign of S and be able to pick a reaction that might yield the most increase or decrease in entropy

Free Energy - Know the spontaneous sign for G and how it relates to K

     Miscellaneous

Know Endothermic vs. exothermic and potential energy diagrams

Know the spontaneous signs of all three variables - your chart

4.  Gases

All the Laws (Boyles, Charles, combined, Gay-Lussac, Avogadros, ideal and its variations, partial pressure, collected over water problems, Grahams, Velocity)

Know the 4 postulates of the KMT to be able to compare real vs. ideal

5.  Bonding

know how to draw Lewis Dot strutures, predict geometries, hybrid and polarity.

     Reviw bond enthalpy

     Review pi and sigma

     Review resonance structures

     Dipole moments/zero dipole moments

     Intermolecular Forces

6.  Pull out old summary packets with multiple choice and free response examples

7.  Pull our old quizzes (I often use same or similair questions)

8.  Review Q1 test for the same reason above.

Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
