Dear Parents, I’m enjoying working with your children and getting to know them. Each and every one of them adds much character to our classroom. Our class enjoyed learning about our second theme, “Store”. Please continue to reinforce the vocabulary for that theme throughout the year. • Look for ways to make mathematics vocabulary a part of everyday language. Use words such as closer/farther, more/less, short/shorter/shortest, above/below, and inside/outside/beside when talking with your child. This will help build meaning into these terms so that they become familiar and comfortable for your child to use. Ex. Look around the room, find five things that are above an object. Such as ceiling is above the floor. Find five things that are below an object. Such as rug is below the table. Language/Readiness Singing; day of the week and month of the year. Every day we read books about our theme (Store) along with activities. Consciously use these words as much as possible with your child at home, in the car, and in your daily lives. This will help your child to acquire the English vocabulary more quickly and with heightened personal relevance. I would encourage you to highlight the vocabulary in English, if possible, and to reinforce (or clarify) concepts in your child’s native language. I hope you find this list helpful! | Store | Red | Shape | Number | | Food store | Blue | Circle | One | | Buy | Green | Triangle | Two | | Price | Yellow | Square | Three | | Large | Orange | Star | Four | | Medium | Purple | Oval | Five | | Small | Brown | Rectangle | Six | | Big Next Under Below | Gray Pink Black | | Seven Eight Nine Ten | Special Activities In October we learned about store and fall and we did activities about them.
