Grades 9-12 Policies

 

Philosophies of Physical Education

Physical Education is an integral part of the total educational process and contributes to the development of the individual student through the art and science of human movement.  The purpose of the curriculum is to provide each student the opportunity to develop and maintain physical fitness, motor skills, creativity, social skills, and the use of leisure time.

Graduation Requirements

A student must pass 1 ½ units of physical education in order to graduate from HHS.  A student must pass freshman PE before they can take another class or have permission from instructor.  A student must pass ½ unit of Health before graduating.  You may only take one PE class per semester.

 

Class Policies

Uniform and Equipment

1.  A student is required to wear clothing that is school appropriate and meets the dress code policy noted in the school handbook.  Acceptable clothing: 

Sweats, Shorts, and T-Shirts (no compression or sophie shorts and no sleeveless shirts)

2.  Clothing should not be loaned or borrowed from another student.

3.  Each student will be issued a combination lock.  A $5 fee will be issued if a lock is stolen or lost.  Each student is responsible for locking up valuables and personal property.  DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR COMBINATION AND ALWAYS LOCK YOUR LOCKER!

4.  Do not wear jewelry during class it is a safety issue.

5.  A student will be charged a replacement cost for any equipment damaged.

 

 

Dressing Out and Attendance:

YOU WILL PARTICIPATE EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT DRESSED OUT!!!!

  • 1st Dress Cut-Verbal Warning
  • 2nd Dress Cut-Verbal Warning
  • 3rd and beyond-1 Hour Detention and Parent Contact

Attendance is very important at HHS, failure to attend class will result in the deduction of points.

 

Illness and Injury

1.  A written doctor’s excuse is required if a student is ill or injured and cannot participate more then 2 days.  The doctor should indicate what activity a student can perform.  The student will dress out but not participate.

Grading Policies

Every student will be assessed on physical fitness level via the presidential physical fitness challenge.  Grades will reflect your personal fitness level and improvements throughout the year. 

 

       *Physical Fitness Assessment= 45%

 

Level One:

National Physical Fitness Level or Shows Improvement from Level 2

90%-100%

 

Level 2

Healthy Physical Fitness Level or Shows Improvement from Level 3

75%-89%

 

Level 3

Participant Physical Fitness Level or Shows Improvement from Previous Assessment

74% or below

 

REFUSAL TO PARTICIPATE WILL RESULT IN OFFICE REFERRAL AND REDUCTION IN GRADE!

 

       *Daily Participation/Dressing Out=45%

10 Points can be earned daily

 

        *Final=10%
