My Dear Families,

Happy February to you! I hope that you all enjoyed January as much as our class did.  We kept very busy, as you'll see, when you look at our picture pages.  Last month we learned how to regroup in addition and we learned how to use base ten blocks to make models of numbers.  We are advancing through our subtraction facts which are proving to be more challenging than our addition facts.  The good news is that our class is always up for a challenge.

We began a unit on government.  We learned about local, state and national goverment structures.  We brainstormed the name for an imaginary town (Cherryville) and then wrote letters to our mayor (Sister Katherine Ann).  Our letters reflected concerns about problems in Cherryville.  Once again, possible problems  had been brainstormed as a class.  Sister Katherine Ann came to our class for a town meeting.  She spoke to us about our written concerns.  She demonstrated that she is an elected official who really listens to her constituents.  She offered concrete examples for how our tax dollars pay for government services.  She noted that she was pleased to be mayor of Cherryville because the citizens were responsible and willing to work to solve problems.

January moved into February as we began Catholic Schools Week.  This was a full and exciting week.  We were very pleased to have our bishop, Matthew Clark, celebrate our CSW Liturgy on Wednesday evening.  Catholic schools are a treasure and a gift to future generations.  Our school community recognizes this and we always enjoy a reason to celebrate the life of our school.

Much love to you as you wend your way through this month!

Mrs. P.
