My Dear Families, Happy March!I can tell that Spring is coming when I see those tiny crocuses peeking through outside our hall door. It is amazing to think that they survived our last snowy onslaught, but there they are, ready to grow and be. Our second graders have experienced steady growth as they completed a unit on government in Social Studies, and learned about the evil of slavery and the persevering heroism of people who risked much to help others toward freedom on the Underground Railroad. We'll begin a unit on economics this month, which will dovetail nicely with our study of dental health and nutrition in science and Health. Take a look at our classroom pictures to see how engaged the children are as they use manipulatives and work cooperatively in math. Our motto is that it is all right to make mistakes. Mathematicians do that every day. What's important is to notice the mistake, and then to fix it, either by ourselves, or with the help of a friend. We are reading and learning about the meaning of Lent. We are understanding that as Christians, we must carry on the work of Christ in the world. This can be accomplished in large and small ways, and Jesus invites all of us, children, as well as grownups, to be healers. Much love to you as you wend your way through this month. Peace, Mrs. Pietrzykowski
