Why Literacy Work Stations?

A literacy work station is an area in the classroom where children work alone or in small groups (2-3) using instructional materials to explore and expand their literacy.  These stations are used often without the assistance of an adult.  It is a special time for children to practice reading, writing, listening and speaking with letters and words.  The emphasis is on hands on learning that engages students. (Debbie Diller)
